- Everything. New images of the volume are needed.
Until 14 October 2026 these letters were filed on this site with the Savoy and Canisy letters to Rohan of May 1636 and with two letters of 1635 now deciphered by George Lasry (Louis XIII to Châtillon and Brézé, Châtillon to Servien). No key is known to be shared with any of them, so they have their own page.
01The letters
The catalogue of BnF Français 5190 lists no. 171 as d’Émery’s cipher letter of 25 January 1636 and no. 172 as Rohan’s reply. D’Émery was the king’s ambassador to Victor Amadeus I of Savoy in these months; in May 1636 the duke names him as party to the plan sent to Rohan. The volume’s Gallica reproduction has 90 views and ends at manuscript p. 80; later view numbers return the same image. No image of these letters could be had, so this page shows none.
02What remains
- Both letters: images of nos. 171–172 are the first need.
- Whether Rohan’s published papers print d’Émery’s letter was not checked.
- If a key is rebuilt from the Savoy and Canisy letters, whose plaintext is printed, it should be tried here rather than assumed.
03Sources
